Least Squares Fit to a Straight Line
FOCAL8-14

Edward T. Chow, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta,
Georgia

This is a program using the principle of least squares to fit a
straight line to a set of up to 35 experimental data points.

The program requires one pass of the data. At the end of the
pass the output gives the values of the slope and the intercept
of the straight line equation. In addition, the calculated
values of the experimental data based on the straight line
equation are pointed out. Finally, the program gives the
value of R which is a criterion of fitness of equation to the
input data.
